On the initial screen, icons located at the corners
provide access to:
The list of stops in textual and iconographic mode
Brief and detailed information about the Nature, Objectives, and Method of GeoChronicles
Summary menu on the categories of objects represented in the geodatabase
The interactive three-dimensional globe in the center, resizable with the mouse wheel and rotatable with the right mouse button, displays:
- The track of the circumnavigation route (red: outward; blue: return)
- The stops made by the ship (red placeholders) or the stages of return journeys made separately by individual expedition members (blue, purple, and lilac placeholders)
- The indicated stages include the subsequent stops made at a single location (e.g., Nicobar Islands)
You can switch from one stage to another by clicking the forward or backward arrow on the breadcrumb bar at the top indicating the active stage.
- Rotate the globe, stop, and click on a stage placeholder to access level 2 information
- Click on the Stages menu icon at the top left, open the list of stages, select the scrolling mode and choose a stage to set the globe in motion and stop automatically at the chosen location for access to level 2 information
- Open the Statistics menu bar at the bottom left and select one of the georeferenced object categories by clicking on the corresponding icon
Once a stage is selected from the menu or by placeholder, the user can see:
- A summary card for the stage, with a "Details" button to access level 3
- Icons of different colors corresponding to the categories of georeferenced objects, clicking on which accesses level 3 information
- To isolate only the categories of interest, the placeholders for the 4 categories of objects can be deactivated by clicking on the corresponding icons located in the center of the top bar. On this bar, an icon always allows returning to the initial view of the globe
Once the object category is selected from the bottom left summary menu bar, the user can:
- Display in table format the list of objects in the selected category present at the stage;
- Click on each entry in the table to access level 3 information.
- Choose in each table to display the data in table mode or graphic mode.
Graphs always show the distribution of the total overall data of the selected object category.
The user accesses level 3 information by:
- Clicking on the Details button contained in the preview summary cards of each stage or
- Clicking on an entry in the summary tables of the objects of each category.
The Details card contains all the information and images found for each object, accompanied by citations and references to external sources.
In the Details cards related to naturalistic specimens, the icon on the specimen indicates the availability of an interactive three-dimensional image ("Gaussian splatting").
